The Persian is a long-haired breed of cat characterized by its round face and shortened muzzle. Its name refers to Persia, though not originating in Persia (currently Iran). Recognized by the CFA since the late 19th century, it was first developed by the English, and then mainly by American breeders. In Britain, it is called the Persian Longhair
